  • Revelation - Verses from the Holy Qur’an

There are many verses in the Holy Qur’an which speak of the various ways that God reveals Himself to His creation. These are called ayat (signs). Hence, the ayat (verses) of the holy Qur’an speak to those whose hearts have been illuminated by the light of knowledge. The Holy Qur’an (42:51-53) states,

It is not fitting for a man that God should speak to him except by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by the sending of a Messenger to reveal, with god’s permission, what God wills; for He is Most High, Most Wise. And thus have We, by Our command, sent Inspiration to thee: Thou knewest not (before) what was Revelation, and what was Faith; but We have made the (Qur’an) a Light, wherewith We guide such of Our servants as We will; and verily thou dost guide (men) to the Straight Way.

Throughout time, God has revealed Himself in a unique manner to each of His Prophets, and to others who have the capacity to receive revelation. These verses from the Holy Qur’an attest to the reality of revelation as it encompasses all created:

Say: "I am but a man like yourselves, (but) the inspiration has come to me, that your Allah is one Allah: whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and, in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner. (18:110)

"BEHOLD, We have inspired thee just as We inspired Noah and all the prophets after him – as We inspired Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and their descendants, including Jesus and Job, and Jonah, and Aaron, and Solomon; and as We vouchsafed unto David a book of divine wisdom." (4:163)

It was revealed to Noah: "None of thy people will believe except those who have believed already! So grieve no longer over their (evil) deeds. (11:36)

And when I revealed to the disciples, saying, Believe in Me and My messenger, they said: We believe and bear witness that we submit (ourselves). (5:111)

Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you: give firmness to the Believers. (8:12)

So We sent this inspiration to the mother of Moses: "Suckle (thy child), but when thou hast fears about him, cast him into the river, but fear not nor grieve: for We shall restore him to thee, and We shall make him one of Our messengers."(28:7)

O ye who believe! give your response to Allah and His Messenger, when He calleth you to that which will give you life; and know that Allah cometh in between a man and his heart, and that it is He to Whom ye shall (all) be gathered.(8-24)

Revelation, like many other aspects of religion, has remained in obscurity and usually been considered to be beyond the reach of human being. However, in reality, the human being has the capacity to receive revelation. It requires readiness and harmony on the part of the recipient.1
